Jimmy Eat World - Work

Jimmy Eat World release ‘Work’, their second single to be taken from their recent album ‘Futures’.

The single features Liz Phair on backing vocals and starts with a good jangling guitar opening before the usual Jimmy Eat World plodding traits set in. It’s typical stadium-rock, just not done very well. The frontman Jim Adkins has one of those voices that you either love or hate. Coupled with the banal lyrics, there’s only so much that the producer, Gil Norton, can do with the raw materials at his disposal. It’s his production on the track that has given the guitars a more polished edge than the band's previous output.

‘Work’ is very nearly a semi-decent song but as it is, it fails to even achieve that, being nothing more than a boring power ballad with emo overtones.
