Iron Maiden - The Trooper

Twenty two years after it’s first release and it seems just like it was yesterday. Iron Maiden followed up the rather good Number Of The Beast album with this single from the Piece of Mind album. It’s as simple as you can get but suffers nothing for this. A simple riff and intense rhythm that doesn’t build so much as plateau from the very start to create as intense a piece of music you can imagine. Of course, it’s an acquired taste, but if you remember it from its first time out, you might want to buy it again because it includes a live version from 2003 to prove they can still cut it despite being very, very old men now. The lyrics don’t improve with age, mind you; it’s still a load of old puff about soldiers.
