Eli 'Paperboy' Reed & The True Loves - Roll With You

The success of Duffy and Sharon Jones doesn't warrant the idea of a full-blown soul revival, but Eli 'Paperboy' Reed is surely in a good place to coat-tail onto some of the received media attention.

Reed has been plying his trade for a few years around the bars and underground clubs, winnning crowds over with an authentic blend of 60s soul, with big nods to the likes of Otis Redding and James Brown. Backed by his True Loves, Roll With You has a solid mix of slow-burners ("It's Easier") and up-tempo dancers ("I'm Gonna Get You Back", "... Boom Boom") that'll get you frugging good style on the old shagpile. As "The Satisfier", Reed wears a grin like a Cheshire Cat and promises the ladies all kinds of fun.

The backing is uniformly tighter than the proverbial gnat's jacksie - although the horns are occasionally a little clean. Put the band somewhere like Toe Rag Studios and they might well capture what's almost certain to be an absolutely kicking live show.
