Cassidy - Hotel
Despite there being the mention of R Kelly on the cover of this single, Childline's least favourite R&B star has little impact on this debut single by Cassidy.
Having honed his lyrical skill in freestyle battles throughout Philadelphia and New York, Cassidy became known to the Ruff Ryder label and having recorded an album's worth of songs whilst part of Larsiny, he found himself shelved due to the label's large roster of acts. With producer Swizz Beatz being given the go-ahead to form his own label, Full Surface, the first act he looked to take with him from Ruff Ryder was Cassidy.
Hotel is the first single to be taken from Cassidy's forthcoming Split Personality album and although R&B, uses the light playing of jazz on an acoustic guitar to give the song a more sun-blessed feel than would be expected from R&B. With Cassidy tending more towards hip-hop than the saccharine soul of Usher, it's only the mention of R Kelly that lets Cassidy down. Had he looked to have gone it alone, Cassidy could have taken the full credit for this but as it is, he leaves himself co-credited with one of R&B's less appealing acts.
