Yellowire - Machines On Fire

Machines On Fire, debut album from Ol Beach performing under the moniker Yellowire, is not quite the incendiary statement the title would suggest. Don't get me wrong though, that's not necessarily a bad thing. There is a quiet strength to Beach's work with his low-key raspy tenor pushing its way through the lush musical arrangements; the songs swirl around you, diffident yet persuasive. Single 'Star Life' bursts into life, the chirping of cicadas giving way to a beautiful melody that immediately takes hold of you. Other highlights include rather lovely folkiness of the title track and the mournful 'In Time', just Beach and a lonely acoustic guitar taking centre stage. Machines On Fire is an impressive start to this promising performer.
