Various - Hard To Find
Just as it says on the tin, these remixes, dating from the mid 80s through to the early 90s, are hard to find - with many appearing on CD for the first time. Perhaps to truly appreciate some of them, you would need to have been there. Simply Red and D:Ream, even if housed up by Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and Sasha, are unlikely to be a selling point these days, but they are demonstrative of the range of acts covered. You’ll also discover ABC, Roxy Music and Frankie Goes To Hollywood nestling amongst names considered more ‘dance’. Anyone with a passing interest in (or nostalgia for) the period should find something to enjoy here. Tunes like The Beloved’s 'The Sun Rising', Neneh Cherry’s 'Buffalo Stance' and Bassomatic’s 'Fascinating Rhythm' make for enduringly great pop music in any form. Best of all is Andrew Weatherall’s take on Saint Etienne’s Balearic classic 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart', a dubby first half leading into the housey second. He’d later play similar tricks with Primal Scream.
