Thievery Corporation - It Takes A Thief

Thievery Corporation make music for people who know that Lebanese Blonde (one of the track titles here) doesn’t refer to a Middle Eastern woman with an unexpectedly light hair colour. Let’s just say nothing on this retrospective of the duo’s 15 year career so far would sound out of place in an Amsterdam coffeeshop. This is downtempo music with a warm, live feel with tracks inspired by dub reggae, Middle Eastern music and Afrobeat. 'Sweet Tides' is sweet psychedelia with a female vocal, while the only conceivable response to 'Holographic Universe' is to sink back (further) into the sofa and enjoy the lush aural journey. That hint of the exotic comes with a smidgen of cliché, but those taken to rifling through the sections marked 'chill out' or 'world' are sure to find plenty here to enjoy.
