Tegan And Sara - Get Along
They're still something of an obscure concern here in the UK, but Canadian twin sisters Tegan And Sara have built up a devoted worldwide fanbase over their decade-plus career. They gained wider exposure when The White Stripes covered their hit 'Walking With A Ghost' in 2005, but since then they've been quite happy remaining a cult favourite. CD/DVD package Get Along is an early Christmas present for dedicated fans, and a pleasant diversion for newcomers who will likely wonder why the girls' music hasn't been more prominent in the charts.
The CD here presents the fifteen live tracks as performed on the DVD's recorded Vancouver concert, For The Most Part. Music fans who dislike albums due to dodgy mixing and loud crowds can relax, as the intimate nature of the gig (played before an audience of family, friends and fans) means the songs are perhaps better presented than on their studio versions. The two voices are crystal clear and emotive, playing well off each other, while the acoustic instrumentation shows off the the musical talent of the Quin girls and their band. Cuts from 2009's Sainthood feature alongside older favourites and everything just sounds great. Two 30 minute docu-films round out a package that is definitely one for the fans, but if you're a teenage girl who can't relate to the Pixies and Avrils of this world - or, indeed, a sensitive gent who fancies girl duos who play guitar - this may act as an introduction to an act you need in your collection.
