Retox - Ugly Animals
With two members of The Locust among their ranks, it’s not hard to guess what Retox might sound like. Ugly Animals is a viciously frantic and chaotic album, eschewing any synthesizers or electronics to concentrate on a visceral, guitar driven record that’s full of satisfying feedback and deafening noise. Brilliant cuts like the juddering ’30 Cents Shy Of A Quarter’ and the devastating ‘Cement Sucking’ pummel the ears in just around a minute each, leaving the senses hardly any time to recover before being attacked once again. Gabe Serbian’s drums are as tight as usual, thrashing about with precision and violence. Ugly Animals may be a pretty short record at just around thirteen minutes, but its no nonsense approach to heaviness and technicality is rather refreshing.
