Pseudo Nippon - Universal Pork Tai-Chi

Pseudo Nippon is the madcap electro J-pop project masterminded by a young man who lives in a shed. That’s about as much as can be done to prepare the listener for the utterly bizarre sounds on offer during Universal Pork Tai-Chi. Short, sharp bursts of deranged rainbow electronics and strange vocals populate much of the album but on tracks like the twinkling ‘I’m On Top Of You’ and the dreamy ‘Temple Of The Shed’, his music starts to make sense. However just as quickly as that sense comes to you, it runs away shouting an incoherent babble, albeit a rather amusing one in the shape of ‘Jebubu And The Whale’. There are some nice little loops and effects on a track like ‘My Red Face’, but it’s hard to really get into the album when most of the lyrics seem to be eccentric nonsense. If it does nothing else for you, it should at least put a smile on your face.
