Limozine - Full Service

Back in the days of Highly Evolved, The Vines were one of those bands who defined the era’s trashy-garage-punk-rock before giving it an adulterous shunt on consecutive releases. And since the revival of this genre in the early 2000s, the torch has found itself in the hands of many bands trying to imitate what only New York Dolls, The Stooges, and The Ramones seemed to consistently do best. The current holder of the torch is London’s quartet Limozine who kept a firm, honest grasp on it during their first two releases. But now that they’re at album number three, is the flame quivering?

Full Service is eleven tracks of grimy, impudent vocals and trashy-garage-rock backbone. But unlike the dirty cloth that wraps Car Crash Casino and Evil Love, this third release has a light bounce to it, adopting indie shades and pushing the punk to the backseat. Although the songs are musically innocent compared to previous releases, the lyrics are still spitefully brilliant. During ‘Sniffing Glue,’ vocalist Limo Dean chimes in with “I’ve been sniffing glue with your girlfriend”, which followed by an evil “ha ha,” reveals the album’s inner brashness. ‘Jennifer X’ is the album’s rockabilly swagger, its bluesy bass line lassoing you in for a country-styled bob. From any other band this would be an exciting release, but Limozine have begun to show signs of multi-personality syndrome, ditching some of their best characteristics. Bring them back on the fourth, please.
