Her Royal Harness - The Hunting Room

Formed after singer Helene Jaeger met producer/instrumentalist Dylan Long via the internet, synth duo Her Royal Harness grew disillusioned with their initial musical explorations and took a year out, distancing themselves from the first murmers of hype. The result of the break sees them abandon some of their pop roots for something more esoteric, and a project that might find favour with those desperate to attach themselves to more underground flavours.

The cynical might say The Hunting Room tries too hard to ride in on Chvrches fever, yet without capturing of the Scots' undoubted sense of savoir faire. Only on opening track ‘Mercenary Man’ and the single ‘Unseen’ does the material manage to properly engage, with the rest passing by on too much 80s atmosphere and not enough real meat. HRH had major labels and festival bookers sniffing around; all this album says is that they might have been better sticking with their original instincts.
