Hadouken! - Every Weekend

Look at the ingredients on the packet and you'd think Hadouken! could sell out massive arenas; instead they earn their crust in 1500 capacity venues and almost define ‘cult’ status. Since 2006, the London band have gradually found an audience - 2007 single ‘Liquid Lives’ reached the Top 40, while their last album, For The Masses has sold over 100,000 copies, largely via word-of-mouth. These are stats their contemporaries look upon with envy. New album Every Weekend might just launch them to another level still.

This is a big album, with a heavy dubstep influence. Kicking off with the apocalyptic sounding ‘The Vortex’, it acts as a statement of intent for the rest of the album. Single ‘Levitate’ would sit happily on Radio 1’s playlist and has all the potential of a big dance anthem. The production on ‘As One’ keeps levels maxxed out at epic, while ‘Bad Signal’ amusingly samples Kim Wilde along the way. Closing track ‘Daylight’ proves to be a highlight - a guest appearance from production duo Drumsound and Bassline Smith is a nod to where they now look for inspiration. However, for all the highs, quality control varies immensely and most of the other tracks pale in comparison. Pick 'n mix for best effect.
