Grand Magus - The Hunt

The first striking thing about Grand Magus' new album is the cover, a wonderfully evocative - and perfectly pitched - piece of art that could not be more fitting for The Hunt. It will take something remarkable to topple this for artwork in the next six months. But on to the music itself... Grand Magus have always been unashamedly retro, a power trio channelling the spirits of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Manowar in the modern world, and long-time adherents are not going to be left disappointed by this latest offering.

The Hunt is a rollicking ride through the snowy myths and fantasy of their native Sweden, tales of bloodshed and adventuring set to a soundtrack of galloping guitars and thunderous drumming. Yes, we might have heard it all before from both their idols and on previous Grand Magus records, but it is still great fun. The likes of 'Storm King' and 'Son Of The Last Breath' are as strong as anything they have done before and The Hunt only serves to strengthen the band's glowing reputation for boisterous, unpretentious metal of the highest order.
