Gold-Bears - Are You Falling In Love

Athens Georgia band Gold-Bears bring us their endearing debut Are You Falling In Love, so infectious and charming that even lead singer Jeremy Underwood's rather whiny vocals can't get you down. Borrowing elements from 80s bands like The wedding Present, Jesus And Mary Chain and The Cure, Gold-Bears have fashioned a sound that is both retro and modern. Songs like the lovely album opener 'Record Store' and 'All Those Years' with their jingly-jangly Peter Buck-esque guitars and warm harmonies are fresh and fun while 'So Natural' and the title track are reminiscent of Jesus And Mary Chain's buzzing guitars with the vocals striving to be heard over the din. 'Totally Called It' and 'Tally' remind you of vintage Cure. A winning album from a first rate young band. While it may not leave you head over heels in love, you may have a bit of a crush after listening to this.
