Gabrielle Aplin - Home EP
Gabrielle Aplin breathes new life into the sometimes stale acoustic pop genre with the release of her third EP, Home. With over 25,000 Facebook fans, a release this strong can only mean she will soon be making the difficult transition from ‘Internet Sensation’ to, well, simply sensational.
Aplin’s vocals ricochet between powerful and uplifting to fragile and on the verge of crumbling, with utmost ease. Title track ‘Home’ is the most obvious example here, as a huge group vocal fades out into a simple climax, a mere echo of the beefy chorus and it's this constant use of contrast which will keep your attention for the duration. Showcasing a lighter side in comparison to her previous Never Fade EP, stand out track ‘Romeo Must Die’ is full of attitude, proving Aplin is more than a one trick acoustic pony, cleverly tackling the break-up song genre with her pride intact. A collection of songs as suited to a rainy day as they are to a late summer night, and still at the tender age of 19, the best is obviously yet to come, but Home proves that she is certainly worthy of the hype.
