Earthlimb - Origin

It’s 2012 and somehow prog rock is back. Earthlimb are a new band formed by Patrick Hagmann, guitarist of Fear My Thoughts/Pigeon Toe. This is prog with a Euro/Germanic feel and lazy stereotypes aside, this is a mixed bag of a record.

There are extended, gentle melodic sections that edge towards post-rock in feel but at its core, this is a record centred around some cliched generic lyrics and excursions into metal guitars, more b-side Tool than b-side Pink Floyd. It’s not a lost cause but as a band, Earthlimb need to decide where they want to take their music in the future: to go more prog or to retreat to their metal roots.
