Damon And Naomi - False Beats And True Hearts
Eventually, acts reach a point in their career where it's largely redundant to try and write anything about them that hasn't been written before. After 25 years and eight albums together, Damon And Naomi are not looking to re-invent the wheel. This is just another chapter, another collection of material for the already converted and, perhaps, the occasional newbie just off the bus from somewhere lonely. Augmented by Michio Kurihara's psych-tinged guitar, False Beats ... still draws from the well of Neil Young and the VU, although when Naomi Young takes centre stage they almost sound English. The pace is best described as pedestrian (this is not music to skate to), the overall sound warm and enveloping. 'Shadow Boxing' is the probable highlight, its slight Sarah Records vibe cutting through a certain sameness about the other tracks - but then you don't pick up an album like this totally blind. DaN continue their slow and steady journey to wherever.
