Body/Head - Coming Apart

Kim Gordon has been put through the mill of late. Her first post-Sonic Youth record Coming Apart sounds it. Where that title might seem solely fixated on thematic and contextual concerns though, its most pertinent relation is to the music, seemingly an attempt to both encapsulate and escape those existential crises and tribulations through sound.

This is ten tracks of improvisational, instrumentally guitar-based drone music, Gordon working with bandmate Bill Nace purely as minimalist sound producers in discordant symbiosis. On tracks like stellar closer ‘Frontal’, they stretch soundscapes into tangible intangibility, operating within the strange, contradictory liminal space - between build and disintegration, art and abstraction, the impenetrable invariable and incisively piercing - that Body/Head calls home.
