Uriah Heep to have a 'Celebration'
Uriah Heep, the legendary British rock band who have sold more than 30 million albums since their inception 40 years ago, release ‘Celebration’, containing brand new studio recordings of 12 of their most successful, classic tracks, plus two brilliant new songs, on October 26th on Edel’s earMUSIC label, distributed by Absolute via Arvato.
Uriah Heep, who indisputably invented Hard Rock in conjunction with Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, then play live at London’s ‘Relentless’ Garage on November 4th, as part of Classic Rock Magazine’s ‘Roll Of Honour’ Awards show week. Tickets, priced £18.50, are on sale now via all usual outlets.
‘Celebration’ will be available in 3 different editions; Standard (CD only), Deluxe (with a DVD of Uriah Heep’s headline live show, in front of 35,000 fans at 2009’s Sweden Rock Festival) and Collector’s (with a strictly limited 7” vinyl single, boasting 2 exclusive bonus tracks, signed by the band).
‘Celebration’ is a fantastic introduction to the very best of Uriah Heep’s technically brilliant, heavy organ and guitar driven sophisticated melodic hard rock songs, all packed with the band’s soaring, trademark multi-part harmony vocals. Two of the band’s best new tracks to emerge for years - ‘Only Human’ and ‘Corridors of Madness’ - are included, alongside such classics as ‘Easy Living’, ‘Gypsy’, ‘Free Me’, ‘The Wizard’ and ‘Lady In Black’.
Despite 20 personnel changes and two deaths along the way (!!!), Uriah Heep have maintained a huge worldwide following and released 21 studio albums over their 40 year musical career.
Originally founded by (sadly missed) vocalist David Byron and guitarist Mick Box, Uriah Heep have been through an incredible number of permutations, with Mick Box always at the helm and ex Bowie/Ziggy band bassist Trevor Bolder by his side most of the time. For over 20 years vocalist Bernie Shaw and keyboard player Phil Lanzon have also been playing these classic songs the band have now re-recorded for ‘Celebration’ live all over the world. Hugely talented new drummer Russell Gilbrook replaced long standing original drummer Lee Kerslake, who had to leave the band due to ill health, 3 years ago.
The DVD of Uriah Heep’s headline appearance at Sweden Rock Festival in June 2009 - which also featured performances form the likes of Foreigner, Heaven and Hell, Journey, Motörhead, Twisted Sister and ZZ Top – is a testament to band’s massive status on the worldwide hard rock stage.
‘Celebration’ perfectly commemorates Uriah Heep’s extraordinary 40 year musical journey, and will appeal to all the band’s longstanding fans, as well as all the new young rockers keen to check out this awesome, seminal, classic hard rock group.
