Preview Quiet Village album!
Quiet Village release their debut album, Silent Movie, on May 12th.
(Kinda borrowed from the press release.)
After three sought-after singles for the Whatever We Want label —plus remixes for the likes of Gorillaz, François K, Cosmo Vitelli and, um, The Osmonds — Quiet Village step out of the shadows to present their first full-length album, Silent Movie. Quiet Village is comprised of master crate-digger Joel Martin and rising dance-music star Matt Edwards (aka Radio Slave), who borrow their name from Martin Denny's exotica masterpiece. While they're still known as disco aficionados and crackerjack dancefloor DJs, Silent Movie is something else. This is not "nu-disco". It's not some "Balearic" ballyhoo. Nor is it Music for Films redux, despite the cinematic suggestion of gauzy sunsets (and the possibility of zombies lurking in the wings). It's a grand and occasionally goofy collage of styles and ideas, something that can only be described as the Quiet Village sound. Influenced by Italian film soundtracks, BBC library music, disco edits, acid rock, vintage soul and easy listening, they smear the unlikeliest elements — bluesy guitar, chamber strings, air-raid sirens, shuffling breakbeats, even flutes and seagull cries — into an hour-long reverie with Vaseline on its lens.
