Openair / Lovebox weekender - Birmingham
The 26th and 27th of May will see Birmingham host two big dance events...
From the press release:
Saturday 26th May 2007
Birmingham’s very own super club Air is preparing to turn itself into a giant alfresco disco. The last bank holiday weekend in May will see the party burst outside of the venue into the surrounding area which will be spectacularly transformed into a clubbing playground with mighty sound systems and state-of-the-art production.
The event will become the first ever dance music festival to take place in the Birmingham city centre. Tarmac and skyscrapers offer a contrasting urban landscape to the usual green fields and rolling hills that typify most festivals. A giant stage will be erected in the grounds of Air giving clubbers the opportunity to experience the freedom of an outside event, contrasted with the intimacy of a club.
The Saturday session will run from 4pm till 4am and has been appropriately named Open Air. It will feature the kind of gargantuan line-up of DJ powerhouses that Godskitchen has become renowned for: the world’s official trance-meister Paul van Dyk and New York’s most recognisable music export Erick Morillo share the head line slots. They are joined by the likes of chart-toppers Erick Prydz and Shapeshifters as well as Sander Van Doorn, D Ramirez and Galaxy Radios residents, Riley & Durrant and the faithful Godskitchen residents.
Paul van Dyk, Erick Morillo, Eric Prydz, Shapeshifters, Sander Van Doorn, Riley & Durrant, Trophy Twins, D Ramirez, Mark Eteson, Funkagenda, Micky Slim, OD Muzique, DJ Aleksij, Paul Thomas, Punkrok, James Algate.

Lovebox celebrates its fifth birthday by heading north to Birmingham with a live show from Groove Armada featuring brand new material from their forthcoming album. They will be accompanied by Deep Dish, Jazzy Jeff, Calvin Harris Live, Plump DJs, Fabio and more to be announced.
What began 5 years ago as Groove Armada’s UK club residency Lovebox has grown into London’s only real fully fledged and independent festival; last year attracting 40,000 partygoers to a 30 acre wonderland with live stages, dance tents, fabulous food stalls, cocktail bars and cabaret all set to a wide & varied soundtrack lovingly curated by its esteemed hosts.
On the May bank holiday 2007 Lovebox will be heading north to Birmingham to celebrate its fifth birthday, bringing a small slice the Lovebox vibe to another great city.
Although Lovebox can’t bring the whole 30 acre parkland and ALL the acts from London, it will be cherry picking enough of the best dance acts from the UK and abroad to fill three indoor dance floors. Outdoors, a whopping live stage will host some very hot new bands alongside the odd living legend; and once the sun has set the mighty Groove Armada with full live band will finish the day with a bang, dropping a whole load of tracks from the new album and with a healthy number of classics.
With a 3pm start time, party goers will be able to drift in and have some great gourmet food straight from the Barbie, soak up some rays with their live funk before getting into something heavier. Alternatively they can just get stuck straight into some serious dance floor action before cooling off outside. But whatever is chosen from the big musical menu the day is a guaranteed corker with Lovebox spreading the love.
