September 6, 2004

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Kinks' classic single You Really Got Me going to #1, Sanctuary Records are reissuing the original seven-inch single on the Pye label, with its original B-side, It's All Right on September 6, 2004. In addition, an accompanying CD single will also be released featuring a bonus track, Misty Water, currently front man Ray Davies' favourite Kinks tune, which was exhumed from the vaults for the recent deluxe 3-CD edition of their Village Green Preservation Society album.

40 years ago one of the most important records of all time was released racing up the charts to Number 1. You Really Got Me is a crucial record in pop history for so many reasons; Mod anthem, the first Heavy Metal record, major influence on the likes of Jimi Hendrix and the first hit for a band that would go on to lay the foundations of Brit Pop and influence almost every guitar band since.
