Glastonbury Stage To Be Renamed The John Peel Stage
Glastonbury's new bands tent will be renamed The John Peel Stage in tribute to the late DJ. Michael Eavis told BBC Somerset: "It's very appropriate, because it's all the sort of music he would have chosen.
Tributes have continued to be paid to John Peel. Hope Of The States, The Others and Gravenhurst dedicated songs to him at gigs, while Franz Ferdinand covered 'Teenage Kicks' at a concert.
David Gedge of The Wedding Present said: "John's show was much more than just a radio show. He was a huge influence on my life and musical taste. This is unbelievably sad."
John Peel's autobiography is on hold as the publishers who own the rights to it, say they will let his widow Sheila decide whether the book should go ahead. Transworld MD Larry Finlay told Media Guardian: "It's just too early to know what will happen. A lot will now depend on what Sheila wants."
It's not clear how far Peel had got with writing the book. He told The Daily Mirror in April that he'd only written 1,500 words.
