Doorly - New single

Wax:On, the globally respected party promoters who’ve been at the forefront of electro, house, dubstep and techno for the last 5 years are now set to launch a label to reflect the sound of their club… And they’ve got a few aces up the sleeve too…

First up for Wax:On Music is the rapidly rising star, Doorly. As resident DJ for Ibiza Rocks, After Party, Metropolis, Reclaim The Dancefloor and, yes you guessed it, Wax:On, it’s fair to say that Doorly is one of 2009’s hottest new names in clubland. Having first been spotted by Pete Tong last year he immediately joined the ‘In New DJ’s We Trust’ tour as well as playing the Radio 1 stage at Creamfields and the Radio 1 Ibiza Weekender where he hosted the main stage. Not a bad start… combine that with a string of exceptional head-turning remixes for the likes of Basement Jaxx, Calvin Harris, Temper Trap and Dizzee’s number 1 single ‘Bonkers’ and the knock on effect has been, of course, massive. Doorly’s career as a globetrotting DJ was confirmed when Annie Mac asked him to join her on the ‘Annie Mac presents…’ tour, putting him directly in the spotlight (listen out for his spectacular 5-min mini mix coming up soon!).

With his own night, Afterparty, in his hometown of Huddersfield recently voted Galaxy radio’s ‘Best Club Night’ and by Mixmag in 2008 as the number 1 club night in the UK, Doorly has a lot to be happy about. Despite being a truly gifted technician, it’s the tunes that make a great DJ and his multiple residencies have given Doorly the opportunity to road test many of his own productions across the last 18-months. Something the Wax:On guys took note of a while back when they asked him to co-run the label and be the first artist to release the music they wanted to be associated with. That’s a slightly tricky thing for Doorly though as his sound presides over “an electronic melting pot of glitch, techno, electro, drum’n’bass and dubstep doused with hip-hop and splashed of indie”, hmm... Isn’t that everything? Well, yes it pretty much is, but when you listen to the ‘Toys’ and ‘Horsestep’ you’ll realise that Doorly simply makes great dance music with an array of styles and influences.

‘Toys’ displays Doorly’s love of techno. It’s everything a peak-time track should be, big rise, big breakdown and a big drop designed for a big room. It’s the stuff top DJ’s live for, they need music like this as at 3am when you’re at in the middle of a festival or at Manumission, this is going to make you lose yourself. Think Audion meets Dubfire with a dash of Sven Vath. Yeah it’s that big.

And ‘Horsestep’ on the other hand is a different beast altogether, the crocodile compared to the shark, equally devastating and powerful, both will get you, but with a completely different approach. Starting off very dubstep in sound and rhythm, it soon descends into a drum’n’bass inspired speed breaks tempo, with horse ‘neighs’ and vocal samples along the way. This is the one that truly shows Doorly’s originality, amalgamating all his influences to create something really rather unique that could fit in a multitude of sets/scenarios.

The package comes complete with remixes from Matt Walsh & Alex Jones, fellow Wax:On residents Eskimo Twins and Felix Yeah.

Don’t forget the names, Doorly and Wax:On Music are just getting started…
