Anna of the North shares video for 'Used To Be'
Anna of the North has premiered new track ‘Used To Be’, which you can watch above. This follows the much-acclaimed ‘Leaning On Myself’ – her first new material since debut album ‘Lovers’ – and a recent, sold-out date at London’s Village Underground. Having also just toured with Anderson Paak, Anna begins her US headline tour this month, with further live dates and new music plans coming soon.
‘Used To Be’ is another tantalising introduction to the next chapter of Anna of the North, taking elements of the hip-hop she was raised on (its groove, its swagger, and its attitude) but cutting right through it with the melancholic and open-hearted way with songwriting that is unmistakeably Anna’s own. The track, says Anna, “is a reminder back to when we were young and didn't worry about superficial things that often take too much of our attention these days. People obsessing over alternative realities. Forgetting that life is here and now. I’m afraid that one day I'll wake up old and sad realizing I spent my entire life staring into a screen wanting to be someone I’m not. Let’s just go and throw a ball at the wall together and appreciate each other for a second.” Or – in the case of the playful video to ‘Used To Be’ – let’s enjoy ourselves as much as those dogs are.
