Anna Leone makes it look easy. Her compelling, stand-out talent, effortless style and her wistful way of composing beautiful songs are the envy of young songwriters everywhere.

Today the rising star returns with her widely anticipated new single, ‘If You Only’, released via indie-label Half Awake/AllPoints/Believe.

‘If You Only’ sees Anna’s unrivalled emotional honesty laid bare once again, her affecting vocal woven over a rich tapestry of tender guitar, mounting to a profound crescendo. The track is subtlety uplifting and a poetic reminder of the gentle grace of Anna’s gorgeous vocal. Its fragility is laced over the sparse, folk landscape and completely envelops the listener in its innocence and artistry.

Anna says, “I’d been up all night and was just putting away the guitar when I came up with the riff. I think it was 4am in the morning or something and the track was created in a kind of sleepless haze. When I went into the studio with Bryan we experimented with a lot of different sounds and had a lot of fun. It was cool to try something a bit more upbeat than usual”

As well as unleashing her latest creation, Anna also details the announcement of her debut EP ‘Wandered Away’ (released on April 20th 2018). The 5-track collection includes previous releases ‘My Soul I’ and ‘I Never Really’, which have amassed over 4M streams and critical acclaim across The Fader, ELLE, Mahogany, Clash Magazine, The Line of Best Fit and more. Anna recently released a remarkable one-take unplugged video for ‘My Soul I, which you can watch here. The EP was produced by Bryan Wilson, the GRAMMY-nominated producer, engineer and mixer who’s worked with the likes of Florence + The Machine, Wolf Alice, Arctic Monkeys, Stormzy and Lianne La Havas.

On the body of work, Anna explains, “I think the EP’s a good reflection of my last few years, even though I never really tried to shape it into something coherent. Not all of the songs were written at the same time but they still manage to exist in the same universe very naturally and have a lot of themes in common. Most of them dealing with finding yourself and your place in the world. Which I’ve been trying to do for a while. I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with the same group of people in the studio, which has made the recorded songs feel even more like a specific moment in time.

Raised in a hushed suburb of Stockholm, Sweden, Anna spent most of her time immersed in video games and comic books. It wasn't until her early teens that she discovered music as a way of dealing with emotions, and as a result, idled away hours playing cover songs on her mother's acoustic guitar. Eventually she moved on to writing her own lyrics and compositions, finding her voice and recording burgeoning songs on her phone.

Fast forward a few years and Anna Leone's sound has grown into a force to be reckoned with. With references including Bob Dylan, Lana Del Rey, Bon Iver and Laura Marling, she has successfully developed her own magnetizing take on the singer-songwriter genre; one that has set her in place as one of 2018’s most promising breakthroughs.
