Reg Presley: 1941-2013

Reg Presley, the lead singer of the 1960s rock band The Troggs, has died at the age of 71. Presley died at his home in Andover, Hampshire from cancer.

The Troggs were most famous for tracks like 'Wild Thing' which got to #2 in the UK charts (and #1 in the US) in 1966, and was famously covered by Jimi Hendrix at his legendary Monterey performance. Their often 'grungey' material proved to be hugely influential, especially in the States, where legions of teenagers took the raw three-chord template for their own garage and high school bands.

Wet Wet Wet covered their ballad 'Love Is All Around' for the 1994 soundtrack to Four Weddings and a Funeral. Presley used his royalties from the hit to support his interest in the crop circle phenomenon.

Rights issues meant that the band re-recorded many of their hits during the 1980s. We think the playlist below is all original - if it isn't let us know!
