On 2 August 2010 Canadian artist Leif Vollebekk is to release his debut album in the UK. Called ‘Inland’, the album will be preceded on May 24 with the release of the 3 track ‘Don’t Go To Klasvik’ single, which includes tracks "Te Og Kaffi" (not previously available anywhere) and "Northernmost Eva Maria", which will be released to coincide with Vollebekk's first UK tour; dates listed below.
A visit to his Plateau apartment in Montreal reveals an endless collection of records from Bob Dylan to Ray Charles. An avid fan of vinyl, Leif wrote half the songs for his own, “Inland”, while studying Icelandic and Philosophy in Reykjavik, Iceland. The other half were written upon his return home, where he recorded and self-produced the album a short time later at Montreal’s Breakglass studio (Wolf Parade, Patrick Watson, Besnard Lakes). Arranged and orchestrated entirely by Leif, "Inland" is primarily centered around Leif’s acoustic guitar and story-telling, featuring string quartets on occasion, piano at times, and splashes of harmonica and drums.
Leif is currently touring “Inland” around the world ahead of the UK album release, and will bring the show to the UK in May for the following dates:
Thu 20 Bracknell South Hill
Fri 21 Glasgow Captains Rest
Sat 22 Edinburgh Queen Charlotte Rooms
Sun 23 Halifax/Sowerby Bridge Puzzle Hall
Tue 25 Manchester Dulcimer
Thu 27 London Bush Hall
Fri 28 Brighton The Hope
More dates to be announced shortly
When asked to describe the new album, Leif says, "Neil Young wanted to sound like a cross between Dylan and the Stones. I want to sound like Hank Williams meets Sigur Ros. Hopefully, I'll fail and get somewhere else."
