Donna Summer 1948-2012

Five-time Grammy winner Donna Summer (real name LaDonna Adrian Gaines) has died of cancer at the age of 63. Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the U.S. Billboard chart, and she also charted four number-one singles in the United States within a 13-month period.

Long-associated with the disco genre, Summer began her career in the musical Hair and spent some of the early 1970s in Europe working on various projects. It was her relationship with producer Georgio Moroder that brought her most success, especially through singles like 'Love To Love You Baby' and 'I Feel Love'.

During the late 1980s she collaborated with British production team Stock, Aitken and Waterman and had several more hits during the period.
