Vanbur release their first dream-pop track and it's an essential listen

Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish might make their careers in film scoring, but their new project, Vanbur, is clear evidence that they excel in the dream-pop landscape too...

Jessica’s haunting and ethereal vocals are at times in the foreground with dream-pop sensibilities, and elsewhere operate as an additional layer to the orchestration and instrumentation, to rich and emotive effect. The EP is both cinematic, and contemporary; influenced by Arvo Pärt, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sufjan Stevens and London Grammar alike.

Lead single Human grew out of Jones’ experiments around a vocal riff, which eventually became the basis of the chorus. “The production grew out of some layered vocal experiments which became a song about lighting a fire from within.” says Jones. “As the climate protests started happening in London this year, the song morphed into a piece about collective change, and the energy and power of many people uniting”.

Written and recorded in their home studios, Vanbur’s debut E.P Human is out on January 17th and it’s a celebration of orchestral colours married with other-worldly electronic production. A stunning introduction to the work of two acclaimed musicians, who are just getting started.
