SXSW 2018 Galleries - Monday & Tuesday, Austin, Texas
South By Southwest is an industry-focussed music conference/festival located in Austin, Texas. An average of 2,200 acts play over a period of five days so it's a great opportunity to watch the latest up and coming music performers from around the world alongside more established bands playing slightly more intimate venues than they are used to.
My first day of 2018's event started at the Convention Center, grabbing a few shots of the Mayor Of London Sadiq Khan, before jumping in an Uber for an afternoon of sets at Hotel Vegas, including a rip-roaring performance from Scotland's Catholic Action, amongst others.
Monday evening's at SXSW are fairly quiet compared to the rest of the week, so I was lucky to receive an invitation to the Vevo ATX event, taking in performances from Olivia Noelle, and two of my favourite acts of the week - UK singer-songwriter Jade Bird and Miley's wee sister - Noah Cyrus.
My evening ended with a visit to The Barracuda, with showcases from delightful oddballs Oy, and songstress Alice Phoebe Lou closing the night.
Tuesday began with a few songs, early afternoon, from Haley Heynderickx, at Cheer Up Charlie's, followed by a trio of short sets at The Blackheart, including Sunflower Bean and a second encounter of the week with Jade Bird.
Australia's G Flip's appearance at the Lustre Pearl was one of the day's highlight's, with an evening showcase from "in your face" rockers Starcrawler, Pale Waves at the British Music Embassy, and a short Led Zeppelin set from Linda Perry, also creating memorable moments, though Linda played in the dark, so was terrible to photograph!
