Sigrid - O2 Academy, Bristol

Having released her debut album earlier this year, Norway's Sigrid, is now approaching the end of her headline 2019 tour having already provided support for George Ezra earlier this year. Last night was the penultimate show of the tour at the O2 Academy in Bristol.

Support as provided by two-piece pop rockers, IDER, who delivered an impressive set. We hadn't had a chance to listen to them before tomorrow but they're now one of our top bands to watch in 2020 - some of their imposing drum work was outstanding and they impressed the 1600 strong sell out crowd.

Sigrid similarly impressed - there's little doubt that she'll be headlining her own arena tour in the next couple of years. Performing all of her most well known tracks - mostly from debut album Sucker Punch - the show opened with a pounding rendition of 'Mine Right Now' that instantly got the crowd onside with with plenty of interaction.

Introducing us to her band for a wonderful stripped back acoustic performance of 'Level Up' was one of the mid-point highlights - just Sigrid along with backing vocals provided by long-time friend and bandmate Kristina Skyberg and and guitar by Sondre Berg Abrahamsen - managing to fill the entire venue with an almost choral flourish.

The stripped back sound continued with Sigrid jumping onto the piano to perform some much more personal tracks including the lovely 'Home to You'. The show was interspersed with a few little moments of interaction as Sigrid introduced the rest of the crew and band, one particularly nice moment was when she spotted a Norwegian flag in the crowd.

Sigrid left most of her bigger hits to the final crescendo with album title track 'Sucker Punch' raising the roof before ending with rousing performances of 'Strangers' and 'Don't Feel Like Crying'. Despite her stature, Sigrid offered up a huge stage presence and an impressive set with her limited (in terms of quantity - certainly not quality) back catalogue to draw upon.
