LostAlone - Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff
With their music a mix of rock, punk and modern day electro, LostAlone defy easy categorisation. Stylistically, there's a want to compare them to The Cure with lead singer Steven Battelle's iconic looks just like those of Robert Smith's, or to The Ramones with the three band members having the same cookie cutter black moptop look. However, as they showed on recent album I'm A UFO In This City, their music makes its own unique mark - as it did on us here.
The band have a presence on stage that is refreshing to both hear and watch, with their bundles of energy potentially stemming from their "false start" into the industry, covering huge tours such as My Chemical Romance, Paramore and 30 Seconds To Mars, before the release of their second album was delayed for two years due to complications with the record company.
This pent-up energy showed tonight as even though the band are at the tail end of a full stint with InMe, the band performed as if it was the first show of the tour with a set full of enthusiasm. You could see that it was important to the trio to put on the best show they could for their fans who had trekked down early to the venue to see them, and the band relished every moment. An enjoyable set from an outstanding band - and one who deserve a bigger break than circumstances have so far yet dictated.
