Arcade Fire - Manchester Arena
In October 2007, Arcade Fire played Manchester Arena, at a time when playing such a big room seemed like an event for them - their shows shows earlier in the year at the Apollo having sold out in an instant, this was a band in ascendence, graduating to the big leagues. Fast forward three years, and having cemented their reputation as one of the world's foremost live bands with the likes of headline slots at Reading and Leeds, this show - sandwiched between massive outdoor shows in Hyde Park and Edinburgh Castle - is actually one of their more intimate UK dates.
As they step out onto the vintage cinema inspired stage set, it's clear they mean business. It's a no-nonsense setlist - 12 out of the 17 tracks have been singles, the crowd at the front singing along from the off, and by the time we hit early highlight 'Haiti', everyone is (at Win Butler's insistence) up and dancing. From there on in, the momentum doesn't stop.
Set List : Ready To Start / Keep The Car Running / Haiti / Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) / No Cars Go / Rococo / Speaking In Tongues / Intervention / Suburban War / Wake Up / Laika / Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) / We Used To Wait / Power Out // Month Of May / Rebellion / The Suburbs
