Anderson East - Notting Hill Arts Club

Last time we saw Anderson East in the UK he was an unheralded, but terrific, country troubadour supporting Holly Williams. That was June 2014 and since then he’s gone off and found his soul. The 2015 Anderson East is no longer a lonely guitar player singing emotional and restrained Americana, he’s the dancing, twirling, confident frontman of a seven piece band crammed onto the miniscule stage at Notting Hill arts Club. And boy he sure puts on a show.

With “the moustache shaper” lead guitarist Scott Murray opening and closing the show with faux sermons Tuesday night in Notting Hill has never felt more like a Sunday morning in Louisiana. From originals like the gospel swing of ‘Only You’, the blue-eyed soul of ‘Satisfy Me’, and the honky tonk rock of ‘Find ‘Em, Forgive ‘Em and Forget ‘Em’ to the raucous extended version of The Faces ‘Stay With Me’ that really shows off the qualities of his pan-American band; from horn section to the rambunktious keyboardist they’re excellent and are in full funky flow on set closer, Prince’s ‘I Would Die 4 U’.

Note: this video isn't from the London show. Obviously.
