The Sounds, Enter Shikari, Billy Talent - Brixton Academy, London

I discovered Swedish band The Sounds in January and was blown away by their performance at Water Rats in London.I didn't expect to see the band again until their March tour so was very happy to discover that I could see them supporting Billy Talent at the slightly larger Brixton Academy.

The band seemed at home on the Brixton stage and probably gained new converts as the crowds reaction to their "Disco Punk" was very favourable. The Sounds short set consisted of songs from their debut album "Living in America" and their forthcoming UK release "Dying to say this to you", including forthcoming single "Tony the beat".

Lead singer Maja's charismatic presence commanded the audience's attention, striking poses front of stage, belting out her raw vocals, ending her performance singing balanced on the top of the bass drum. The rest of the band, coming to the front with electronic drums for a barrage of beats ending set closer "Ego".

I didn't even know that Enter Shikari were playing until about two minutes before their performance.I had seen the band at the Astoria a couple of nights previously but they weren't really my thing.Their unique pairing of Rave meets Metal should be applauded but I tired of the formula fairly quickly. However,I'm certainly not Shikari's target audience and the crowd loved them, with glowsticks getting waved all through their set.Lead singer Rou is an energetic performer, covering the majority of the stage, tiring me out just watching him!
The band have just released the single "Anything can happen in the next half hour" and have an album "Take to the skys" due out on March the 19th so it wont be long until they headline Brixton themselves.

Canada''s Billy Talent hadn't shown up on my musical radar previously but I was entertained by their Punk Pop, even though I only caught the first three songs from the photo pit before leaving. The band were promoting their new album "Billy Talent II", with the show being filmed for a future DVD so I may catch the rest of the set some day!
