The Automatic - Water Rats - London
UK radio station 6 Music held one of their monthly club nights at Water Rats in London this week.
Welsh indie kids The Automatic headlined, supported by potential stadium rockers - Cord and the rather dull EMO types - Black Ramps.
I first came across The Automatic while listening to 6 Music when the band popped into the studio to play a short acoustic set one weekday morning to promote their second single "Raoul".I enjoyed their performance and subsequent airings of the single cemented my liking for the band.
Water Rats was packed as this was one of the last chances to see the lads play in an intimate venue as tours with The Kooks and The Ordinary Boys earlier this year helped them to build up a sizeable following.
The Automatic played an enjoyable strong set that had the audience jumping up and down from the off.
The main focal point of the four piece are singer Rob and keyboard player Pennie, with both members throwing themselves into their peformance leading to Rob disappearing into the audience to perform and Pennie climbing onto the PA at various points of the evening while Frost on guitar and Iwan on drums kept it all together.
From the songs played it looks like the bands debut album will be worth a listen. It's due out in June, alongside a new single.
The band play several larger UK dates in May.
