Tips 2012: run,WALK!
"What the hell is 'death-drone'?" I hear you shout. Well your guess is as good as anyone elses, but if it sounds this noisy and brilliant then you should do well to listen up. run,WALK! are set to cause quite a lot of chaos in 2012 with the two-piece on track to record and release their debut album in the first half of the year. We caught up with drummer Tom Clements to see what 2012 has in store for them.
Can you tell us a little bit about how the band got together?
I (Tom) joined run,WALK! on a cold evening at Reading Festival 2008. Matt had the band going before that and I had been a fan of them for quite a while, our bands had both played together a fair few times which is how we met, so when Matt said he was looking for a new drummer I leapt at the chance.
Who are your influences?
Band influences are people like Be Your Own Pet, I Was A Cub Scout, Rolo Tomassi and Death From Above. I pretty much listen to anything that takes my fancy (Currently Darwin Deez, We Came Out Like Tigers and Audio Books read by Tony Robinson) and Matt's favourite genre changes every three days. It tends to make for an interesting band practice as our styles seem to change every time we see each other.
Are the tracks you’ve released so far indicative of what we can expect on your debut album?
Yes and No, the split 7" we did with Topshelf is a good indicator, but we have both changed our styles and outlook since the mini album, which was much more spazzy and messy. Our album will be more structured (for us anyway).
What's been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight for me so far has to be SXSW 2011, we saw so many great bands (Touche Amore, Deafeater, Cool kids - to name a few) and hung out with some great people. It's also where we met Kev and Seth from Topshelf so we really gained something from it. Other highlights include our Euro Hell Tour in 2010 with our best buddies Battle For Paris, certainly one of the best weeks of my life.
Who will you be watching in 2012?
Battle For Paris are bringing out their album soon which is guaranteed to be pure gold. I'm also excited to see any new stuff from La Dispute and to see where Veils go. I hear there's a new series of Glee too. That'll be great.
What will 2012 hold for you?
Firstly recording the album, then we will be touring anywhere we can. We both agreed yesterday that we're going to try and break 100 shows in 2012, so we will hopefully be constantly on the road! Also I am going to buy a van. And we both turn 21...
