The Kixx - an introduction...
The Kixx, a pop four piece from Reading are set to stamp their mark on the UK charts this Autumn with debut single ‘Already Gone.’ All-singing, all-writing and all-playing teens, Dave, David, Jack and Robbie have taken inspiration from The Undertones (get the name), Jason Mraz and Johnny Cash to teen-thrilling effect.
Having met at school, the boys have spent the last six years playing together and honing their pop sound, but more putting the finishing touches to their debut album undertaking a UK schools tour and playing to steadily increasing audiences up and down the country. We caught up with the boys in the middle of their hectic summer of touring to find out how the tour was going and what was in store next for The Kixx.
What's it been like playing on the schools tour?
It’s been amazing! It’s great having such a large audience to play to and we’ve got such a brilliant reaction every time.
How do the audiences compare to your normal gigs?
It has been more challenging because it was always a case of winning them over – it kept us on our toes!
If you had do describe your music to someone that didn't know you, who would you compare yourselves to?
It’s pretty diverse – from gritty clubby to a stripped down Beatles-esque ballad – there’s no real comparison.
What would be your 3 desert island albums?
Muse – Origin of Symmetry
Rascal Flatts – Unstoppable
Johhny Cash – Live From St Quentin
What bands are you listening to at the moment?
We’re actually really enjoying the top 40 at the moment as well as Rascal Flatts.
Who are your musical heroes?
There are loads but The Beatles would probably be the ultimate in musical heroes.
If you could play a one off show with anyone, who would it be?
Pixie Lott!! ;-)
What's the most embarrassing track on your iPod?
Jack – Justin Beiber “Baby Baby Baby”
Dave – Celine Dion “Beauty and the Beast”
David - Jordan and Peter “A Whole New World”
Robbie – there’s a lot of Glee
What's your ultimate summer song?
Rascal Flatts “Summer Nights”
Any festivals planned for the summer?
Not really – we’re so busy touring that we won’t have the time to go to any festivals.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
What was the best gig you ever went to?
Jason Mraz is one of our favourites and the best gig was one he played at the Concorde in Brighton.
How has growing up in Reading shaped your sound?
Well it’s played quite a big part really because that’s where we all met, otherwise who would have known if The Kixx would have got together.
How would you describe your debut single 'Already Gone'?
Already Gone is an electro rock anthem with a two fingers up attitude to an ex.
What's next for The Kixx?
Touring, touring and more touring! Then after that we have the single release in October – so lots of exciting stuff coming up.
Where would you like to be in five years time?
World domination of course! : )
