Reading and Leeds Preview: Paramore
The first Reading and Leeds headliners (or rather co-headliner) this year is Paramore, taking to the stage at Reading prior to co-headliners Queens of the Stone Age on the Friday, then following QotSA at Leeds on the Saturday. But why are they headlining? Their credentials are undeniable, having played the festival four times before and sub-headlining twice along with numerous sold out UK tours, with the most recent featuring two sold out nights at Wembley Arena (not unlike QOTSA). Last playing the festivals in 2012 - and pulling a bigger crowd than headliners The Cure - it’s undoubtedly their time to step up and shows us what they've got.
Recent sets include hits such as the poppy ‘Still Into You’, the ballad ‘The Only Exception’ and emo anthem ‘Misery Business’, but have lacked in material from their debut, with early single ‘All We Know’ absent completely with ‘Emergency’ only popping up occasionally. At least debut single ‘Pressure’ remains a constant. Understandably, the sets are heavy on material from their most recent self-titled album but also with tracks from their breakthrough Riot!, which will give casual fans a delight.
So can they pull headlining Reading and Leeds off? We're pretty certain they will and the early signs suggest they’re certainly going to give one hell of a show.
