Kendell Marvel's 2019

Kendell Marvel's 2019

Another other of the unsung heroes of Nashville, Kendell Marvel celebrated the release of his second record in 2019. The songwriter behind tracks from the likes of Chris Stapleton, George Strait, and Jake Owen talks to us about his 2019.

Hey Kendell, what’s been the most exciting thing you’ve done in 2019?

I've been lucky enough to do quite a few exciting things in 2019. Finished up and released my new record Solid Gold Sounds with Dan Auerbach and Dave Ferguson and just wrapped up a fall tour with Chris Stapleton and Brothers Osborne. And the year ain't over yet! I've got my Opry debut at The Mother Church (Ryman Auditorium) in December. I'm pretty over the moon about it all.

What’s been your biggest challenge of 2019?

I think my biggest challenge of the year is trying to stay creative and stay in shape while on the road. That shit ain't easy! Haha.

Where’s the coolest place you’ve played music in 2019?

I’ve played a bunch of cool places this year from Mexico to Alaska, but one of my favorites was a fly fishing gig in Wyoming. It’s always cool when you can mix a little fishing in with work.

What’s the one album you’ve loved most in 2019?

I really dig Yola's new record Walk Through Fire. She is such an interesting artist, and man can that woman sing! (Spotify | Tidal)

What’s been the song that’s most soundtracked your 2019?

I'd say the song that has soundtracked my year is 'Runnin' On Empty' by Jackson Brown - ha! It's been a pretty busy year. You best believe I'm lookin' forward to some downtime over the holiday season.

What have you hated about 2019?

Man, when you get my age you try to enjoy everything ya can. If I hate anything it’s all the hate that people are showing towards each other. I’m really tired of what is going on.

What are you most excited about for in 2020?

I’m really excited about touring in the new year and meeting new people and playing places that I haven’t played before. Bring it on, 2020!

Kendell released his latest record, Solid Gold Sounds, in October 2019. You can buy it from the usual places (including Amazon) and stream from Spotify and Tidal.
