Introducing...Theme Park

Quite possibly the freshest band we've introduced to you, Theme Park only formed earlier this year and generated online fever when they posted an early track 'Milk' in early May.

Details of them have been scarce up until yesterday when it was confirmed that their debut single, double A-side 'A Mountain We Love / Wax', was set for release on August 29th through new Transgressive label imprint paradYse. A debut show at London's Lexington venue follows a couple of days later on August 31st, but we felt that was too long for you to get to know them.

So instead we sat down with twins Miles & Marcus Haughton (vocals and guitars), Oscar Manthorpe (guitars) and Louis Bhose (bass) for a quick chat to find out how this particular ride got started.

What's your earliest musical memory?

Miles: Maybe it’s a little bit cheesy, but I remember when Marcus and I were very, very young, when we went to sleep Dad would be playing his record player in the room next door, and the one song I remember hearing quite a lot was 'Face In The Crowd' by Tom Petty. I was very young so I was more into the sounds. It just sounded warm.

If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?

Miles: Chet Baker

Marcus: Dave Sitek.

Oscar: Nina Simone

Louis: Kevin Shields

And the drummer from Hadouken!.

Louis: We hasten to add this would in no way form any decent sounding music.

Miles: I think it’d sound really good.

You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who do you compare yourself to?

You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which three albums do you take with you?

Marcus: Nimbo Panto (Wild Beasts), Funeral (Arcade Fire), Teen Dream (Beach House)

Miles: Original Pirate Material (The Streets), Pet Sounds (The Beach Boys), Sketches Of Spain (Miles Davis)

Oscar: After The Gold Rush (Neil Young), Jackie Brown OST, Hail To The Thief (Radiohead)

Louis: Darkness On The Edge Of Town (Bruce Springsteen), Lost In Translation OST, New Skin For The Old Ceremony (Leonard Cohen)

Everyone has a defining music moment, one that lives on in the memory, what is yours?

Louis: My dad taking me to see Bruce Springsteen at the Emirates Stadium.

Oscar: Seeing Radiohead for the first time at Earls Court, that was pretty special. That’s when I decided I wanted to be in a band.

What is the best gig you've ever been to and why?

Marcus/Miles: James Brown at the Hammersmith Apollo. That was our first proper gig, as in a gig in a really big venue, so the whole thing was extremely exciting. Plus, obviously, the music was great!

If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find?

Marcus: The Paris Hilton single.

Miles: The Bon Jovi discography.

Oscar: Miley Cyrus – 'Party In The USA'

Louis: Mousse T - 'Horny'

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Miles: This house in Brazil, it’s called the Paraty House. You’d be more than welcome!

'A Mountain We Love / Wax' is out on August 29th through paradYse. Entry to Theme Park's Lexington gig will be solely on a reserve basis by emailing your name to with the word 'paradYse' in the subject line for £5 entry.
