It's a busy time for London-based singer-songwriter Elissa Franceschi. With her new video set to premiere later this week and a headline slot at Ronnie Scott's in July, not to mention an EP later this year, she's hoping that 2012 will be a good year! She took time out of her busy schedule to tell us a bit about herself...
Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name is Elissa Franceschi, I am a half Corsican singer-songwriter from London.
What's your earliest musical memory?
My Dad playing Billy Joel and Eric Clapton songs to me and my brother in the car on the way to the swimming pool, followed closely by a Dixie Chicks gig at the Royal Albert Hall - amazing.
If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?
Wow, wouldn't that be incredible. Without any doubt I'd bring in John Mayer, Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and Beyonce and see what mental songs we'd come up with!
You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who do you compare yourself to?
Comparisons have been made to Coldplay, Kelly Clarkson and Adele and frankly I'd aspire to be a fusion of all three. It's a pop-rock sound with big melodies, lots of emotion and attitude.
You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which three albums do you take with you?
Grace by Jeff Buckley, O by Damien Rice and Where The Light Is (live) by John Mayer, those three legends would easily carry me through.
Everyone has a defining music moment, one that lives on in the memory, what is yours?
I am going to be cheeky and give two: one was stepping on to the stage to sign at Wembley Arena and seeing 12,000 phones lit up amongst the black out, it was the most surreal moment and showed me what I could achieve. The second, was hearing my third album come together, sonically I didn't know what I was capable of until teamed with session players and an amazing producer and engineer.
What is the best gig you've ever been to and why?
So many, Turin Brakes, Tina Dico, Stevie Wonder... but Bon Iver last autumn made my spice tingle, they blew me away.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
On a tour bus, with an incredible team around me; immersing ourselves in the utter joy of being able to share the songs with people around the world, that is my dream.
If we were to look at your MP3 player or record collection, what guilty pleasures would we find?
A horrendous amount, none of which I am ashamed of! Britney, N Sync, Michael Bolton [laughs]
What's next for Elissa Franceschi?
We are re-launching www.elissafranceschi.com and have a diary bursting with shows where you can see me live with my 7-piece band, the music video for 'Becoming the Enemy' was finally released on May 7th, I'm planning a single release of 'Salt' on which my brother sings with me, hopefully organising some shows outside of London and recording an E.P for release at the end of the year!
Elissa Franceschi's new EP is due out later this year, you can find out more about Elissa and her music at her website
