Introducing Soft Toy Emergency
Electro-pop band Soft Toy Emergency hail from Liverpool and have been building up a huge following touring the UK. Their debut single for UK independent label All Around The World is out this November and it's set to be a huge dance-floor filler as well as a cracking all round track. We were lucky to have some time with the band's gorgeous vocalist, Jen, who answered our quick fire questions...
What's your earliest musical memory?
Jumping around the kitchen to my mum and dad's copy of Mr Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra!
If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?
Can we say Prince x 5? He plays loads of instruments, right?
You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who would you compare yourself to?
Girls Aloud meets Bloc Party!
You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which albums do you take with you?
Nevermind by Nirvana, Greatest Hits by Earth, Wind and Fire and 808s & Heartbreak by Kanye West.
Everyone has a defining music moment, one that lives on in the memory, what is yours?
I think playing at Reading and Leeds was a big deal for all of us in the band, because we have all attended them and dreamed about playing them.
What is the best gig you've ever been to and why?
Take That and Britney were both amazing shows in terms of big pop productions. I have never been so completely entertained all the way through a gig from start to finish.
If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find?
Probably an old demo from previous bands we've been in! I'm not embarrassed about my MP3 library... Maybe I should be?!
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Hopefully still making music that we love and still touring lots.
How would you describe your single, Critical, to us?
It's a song about reflecting on relationships in a positive light and moving on, with the help of some kick-ass 80s-inspired synths!
What's next for Soft Toy Emergency?
Our single Critical is out in November, followed by lots of touring. But for now... lunch and a couple of beers!
We'd like to thank Jen for taking the time to answer our inane questions and hope that the band have a huge success with their single later this year. We're looking forward to seeing more from them...
