Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to talk with us. Seeing as you're such new fresh faces and our readers are unlikely to know you yet, tell us a bit about Inky...
Gravelly Gaynor, Foghorn Fanny and Sweet Sue all northern but living in London. Female, good sense of humour, animal lovers, light drinkers (mainly at weekends) seeks management and record deal with professional who shares same interests and very good sense of humour for a LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP !
You're not a manufactured band, so how did you all meet?
Anna: I met Bobbi about five years ago in Liverpool we met through a mutual love of music and also we had the same singing teacher. Anyway we didn't stay in touch but she was the first person I thought of a year ago when I knew that I wanted to form a band. Luckily when I contacted Bobbi I found out she was looking to do exactly the same thing...
Bobbi: Yeah... I was about to hold auditions so when Anna got in touch. It was weird kinda fate-ish mumbo jumbo in a wonderful way! I remembered her low gravelly vocals and strong writing skills and thought hell yeah! I was working for a major music management company at the time and had to take an artist I was looking after to do a gig up north thats where I met Aimee...
Aimee: I was doing a solo set of my own songs playing the piano and singing... I remember Bobbi came over when I finished performing and said “I just have to tell you I think you're really good” and asked for my number to help get me in touch with the A&R scout at the management company she worked at... a couple of months passed and I got a random phonecall at stupid o’clock in the morning...
Bobbi: ... haha yeah my phone called her accidentally from my pocket... when Aimee texted to tell me what my random phone was doing I replied letting slip we were looking for a final member for a girl band... she said she’d like to audition...
Anna: ..and we fell in love with her! We just clicked... it felt right.
Aimee: Yeah and here we are a year on and even more in love haha!
You're inevitably going to be compared to the likes of Girls Aloud, Sugababes and countless other girl groups. What sets you apart from the crowd?
Anna: I think it's up to the public to decide what sets us apart... we just do what we do and are waiting to find out if people like what we do so fingers crossed.
Bobbi: Yeah... we've been there before feeling like you have to be something different and even giving in to other people's visions of what you should dress like/act like etc, so we decided that we would just see what happens when we write together and worry about the rest when we have to...
Aimee: I think its makes a difference that we haven't been handpicked by a label. You can tell that we genuinely like each other and therefore enjoy what we are doing otherwise we wouldn't be doing it and also we spend most of our free time writing cause we really do enjoy it not because we are being paid to do it.
If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?
Aimee: PINK, Alicia keys, Beyonce, Tina Turner and ..... hmmm dunno
Anna: Oooooo tricky one! I would love to have a jam with Timbaland, I love his beats and you can really tell when he has stamped on a record!
Bobbi: ... actually I think it would be cool to round up some of the ultimate girl bands that we have grown up listening too maybe mixed with recent ones...
Anna: So Sugababes, All Saints...
Aimee: ...The Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child...
Bobbi: ...and lets throw in The Saturdays... it would be pretty interesting!
At the time of this interview, you're not yet signed, but you hinted that there's a lot of interest. Any exciting announcements to make?
Anna: Let's just say in true INKY style, one of those meant-to-be situations happened, when you are in the right place at the right time... and that led us to an amazing opportunity which are just in the process of sorting out...
Aimee: ... and when the time is right to let the cat out of the bag, maybe we will tell you first eh??
Bobbi: We accept Haribo in trade of exclusive info... haha... anyway until then we wont jinx things we will just request that in true superstitious fashion everyone crosses fingers for us... literally!
Aimee:... also Quils Tees have designed a special INKY T-shirt
Bobbi: Yeah, its not your typical kind of band tee “girls strike a pose” type of thing its a proper illustrative design take a look visit www.quils.co.uk We love the designs!
What should we expect from your debut album?
Bobbi: Hopefully a strong album where you dont want to skip any tracks!
Anna: A fusion of a loads of things, we all write very different stuff naturally to suit our own personal musical tastes and to suit our own voices but somehow it seems to work when we put it all together...
Aimee: ...strong passionate vocals, great harmonies and a look inside our minds through our lyrics!
If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find
Anna: Mine is (sorry Martine) but Martine McCutcheon 'This Is My Moment'
Aimee: ...Oh that is funny, mine is Lolly 'Big Boys Dont Cry'
Bobbi: (laughs)... Ok here goes my guilty pleasure... the Camp Rock album (ahem)!
What's next for Inky?
Aimee: ... writing our first single?...
Anna: ... knocking people doors down so get ready labels!
Bobbi: ... and we're all itching to gig so hopefully gigging soon...!
We're looking forward to the seeing what the girls come up with... Check out Inky on their website here, www.inkymusic.com.
