Emily Capell's 2019
So Emily, hello, and what’s been the most exciting thing you’ve done in 2019?
The most exciting thing that’s happened in 2019 is definitely everything we did for the album. In February we went to record it and then it was released in October. I honestly loved every second of it! We were lucky enough to record it in Chairworks studio and that was nothing but an absolute joy! I loved the sell-out launch show too! I’m so lucky that my band are amazing and we laugh from start to finish!
What’s been your biggest challenge of 2019?
My biggest challenge was probably keeping positive. Working in music is hard it can really affect your mental health. You want people to listen to your music but at the same time I find myself so worried about if anyone would like it. But you can’t worry about that you just have to concentrate on enjoying the process. Luckily for me I have the best band, management, agent and family that keep me going!
Where’s the coolest place you’ve played music in 2019?
I got to support The Selecter on the 40 year anniversary of 2 Tone tour. I’m halfway through the tour at the moment and it has been amazing! Pauline Black and her band are so inspiring. Rhoda Dakar is DJ-ing too and she is an absolute diamond! It was a huge honour to do it and by far one of the coolest things I’ve done in 2019 and in my life really!
What’s the one album you’ve loved most in 2019?
I have to give a nod to The Sherlocks who I think brought out a great debut. At the moment I’ve had the best of Reverend and The Makers on repeat. I LOVE that band. I love the latest Blossoms track but I’m yet to buy the album and I’m very excited about new Jack Penate. The Specials also brought out a great album! I’m waiting on the new Kanye one! Hahaha, so that’s loads... I can’t give you one!
What’s been the song that’s most soundtracked your 2019?
'Call Me Al' ... absolute tune. Me and my best friend Kerry went to New York and we went to a musical cafe and the staff got on the tables and chairs and sung it! I’ve sung it every day since! Also ‘Days like These’ by Matt Monroe. We’ve been coming on stage to it. It makes me feel cooler than I am. Matt Monroe is so so perfect l but he doesn’t pull me away from Frank Sinatra. I will always love Frank!
What have you hated about 2019?
Jacob Rees Mogg, Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson. I don’t even want to give them attention so we must stop talking about them.
What are you most excited about for in 2020?
There is something happening that I can’t talk about. It hasn’t been announced yet so I can’t talk about it but it’s so exciting. Tears come to my eyes whenever I think about it. I already can’t sleep I’m so worried about it!!! [Ed - we're very intrigued now...] Anyway... that and QPR maybe getting automatic promotion!
Finally, what’s the one thing about your 2019 that you’d like to share?
I’d like to share with everyone that we all need to be nice to each other! Be kind and be loving! Have each other's backs, support each other! It’s not about what you look like it’s who you are and how you treat others!!! Register to vote and use your voice! Google the facts and learn about what it’s right for EVERYBODY, not just you! Joe Strummer Forever!!
