Darling West's 2019

Darling West's 2019

What’s been the most exciting thing you’ve done in 2019?

We’ve toured extensively, twice in the US and also in Europe, and a lot of that has certainly been exciting and fun, but the biggest one has been recording a new album. Writing and recording new music is always a very exciting and unique process, so it’s a hard one to beat.

What’s been your biggest challenge of 2019?

Also recording the new album. Seriously though, a very hard part of being an artist is the period between finishing an album and actually getting to show it to the world. We start doubting our decisions and getting very restless.

Where’s the coolest place you’ve played music in 2019?

We went back to Austin to play SXSW for the second time. It’s very challenging because of the insane amount of bands playing there, but also so much fun meeting people and hearing a lot of fantastic music. The people of Austin are so interested in live music, and it's a unique city to play in. Also, the first Oslo Americana festival happened, and we got to share the stage and get to hang out with Aaron Lee Tasjan, which led to us writing a song together. That was certainly a highlight!

What’s the one album you’ve loved most in 2019?

So much to choose from, but the album we might have listened to the most is A Deeper Understanding by The War On Drugs. Driving across America that album was a mainstay in the car, following us on a very regular basis.

What’s been the song that’s most soundtracked your 2019?

'Reoccurring Dream' by Ethan Gruska. The guitar playing, his voice and how he writes lyrics, it’s all incredibly good.

What have you hated about 2019?

That dialogue and humanity seems to be losing ground, and that ignorance, misinformation and fear pushes people in the wrong direction and makes them forget we’re all in this together.

What are you most excited for in 2020?

The obvious answer is naturally releasing our new album and playing those songs in front of an audience. And the new Ethan Gruska record.
