donkeyboy have Ambition

Press release:

Norwegian quintet donkeyboy have achieved unprecedented success since the release of their debut single ‘Ambitions’ early in 2009. After a lengthy run in the Top 10, ‘Ambitions’ hit the top of the charts and remained at #1 for 12 consecutive weeks. And when it was displaced by the follow-up single ‘Sometimes’, donkeyboy became the first band in Norway’s history to hold the top two places on the single charts. Both singles returned to the top – ‘Ambitions’ spent a total of 13 weeks at #1, with ‘Sometimes’ clocking up 8 – and ensured that donkeyboy held the top of the charts for almost half of the year.

And their success didn’t end there; three further singles – ‘Broke My Eyes’, ‘Awake’ and ‘Blade Running’ - all hit the Top 10 while their debut album ‘Caught in a Life’ went straight to #1 and reached Platinum status just eight days after its release.

Now donkeyboy look to repeat their homeland success in the UK with the April 19th release of the single ‘Ambitions’, which will be followed by the album ‘Caught in a Life’ on April 26th.

Fronted by songwriters, joint lead vocalists and brothers Cato and Kent Sundberg, donkeyboy are inspired by Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Pet Shop Boys and a-ha - bands linked by a natural ability to weave a captivating hook and whose attributes are permeated in the donkeyboy lineage

Recently seen on tour as support to A-ha, donkeyboy’s growing fame has already earned them a MTV Europe Music Award nomination for Best Norwegian Act. They’re also a leading contender at the Spellemannprisen, Norway’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards, with four nominations including Best Pop Act and Best New Artist.

Hailing from Drammen, a scenic river city in the east of the country, donkeyboy operated under the radar of the local music scene. “Back when we started, we’d just play in our parents’ basement,” says Cato. “No-one knew who we were. Now kids stop us in the street to ask for autographs. It shows that they're into the music and it's good for us to be positive role models.”
