The Hives - Walk Idiot Walk
As someone who bought Your New Favourite Band without shame and who found that it really wasn't necessary to invest any further in The Hives, they still only have the one song. Of course, when that song is good, as it was on Hate To Say I Told You So, The Hives can sound as good as any other post-punk/pop band but keep those songs coming and the lack of surprise washes in faster than a high tide.
Of course, that should mean that Walk Idiot Walk, the new single by The Hives, opens with a riff before the familiar loud/quiet/loud thing happens with a chorus that's just that bit louder than everything else...but otherwise the same. Clearly, The Hives have been listening to sixties mods with this sounding closer to The Small Faces or The Who than it does late-seventies punk but it's evidently the same band who released Hate To Say I Told You So.
Your New Favourite Band might well have been released in 2001 and have done little more than pull together the best moments from earlier albums but there's no more progression here than one gets from an exercise bike. That won't be much of a problem to those for whom Hate To Say I Told You So was a moment of pop/punk wonder but The Hives present no good reason to pass on your copy of Your New Favourite Band just yet.
